Watching soap operas is an effective way to expand your vocabulary, work on your pronunciation and accent, practice listening skills and learn about Russian culture. In addition, you can have a good time watching the characters get into funny situations in everyday life: while studying, travelling, going on a date.
To make the learning process more productive, you can use several techniques:
- write down new words or even whole sentences and memorise them;
- having learnt the new vocabulary, actively use it in their speech;
- watch the show on tape, pause the video and repeat after the characters;
- if available, include subtitles and adjust the playback speed;
- devote at least 20 minutes a day to watching it.
Once you have worked on your vocabulary, you can return to watch the same video several days later to enjoy the plot and language nuances more fully.
