In this lesson we will continue with the topic “Откуда вы родом” “Where do you come from?” which includes practicing the prepositional case (to answer the question «где” “where?”) In addition, the genitive case (to answer the question “откуда” “from where?”) and related vocabulary. Today you will learn about a compound sentences construction compound sentences with the contrapuntal conjunction “a.”

A sentence structure with the conjunction “а” “but” is as follows:

Subject + predicate + other members, A + subject + predicate + other members.

– Откуда ты? Where are you from?

– Я из Сибири I’m from Siberia.

– А он откуда? Where is he from?

– Я из Сибири, а он из Москвы. I am from Siberia, and he is from Moscow.

– Где вы живете? Where do you live?

– Я живу во Франции, а он живет в Германии. I live in France and he lives in Germany.
