Lesson 12. "Hard" soft consonant letters

We continue to learn to read Russian. Today’s topic is soft and hard consonant letters and sounds of the Russian language. In this lesson, we will understand in detail how the consonant letter “б” sounds in combination with different vowel letters: бэ — бе, бо — бё, бу — бю, бы — би, ба — бя. In the first combination in each pair, the letter “б” sounds hard, in the second combination – soft. You will also repeat already learned Russian words and learn new ones with an emphasis on hard or consonants soft pronunciation depending on the combination with Russian speech a particular vowel sound.

The vocabulary for this lesson:

  • стол — стиль / [стол] — [ст’и́л’] / table — style;
  • карта — кино / [ка́рта] — [к’ино́] / map — cinema;
  • Китай — Канада / [к’ита́й] — [кана́да] / China — Canada;
  • дуб — дело / [дуп] — [д’эла́] / oak — business;
