Lesson 44. Age

In this video lesson, you will learn how to call your age, learn what the use of the words “год”, “года”, “лет” after the age figures depends on. In addition, you will continue to get acquainted with the cases in the Russian language, today – the personal pronouns dative case.

.– Сколько тебе лет / How old are you?

– Мне… / I’m…

Rule!

  • If the number ends in 1 (actually 1, but also 21, 41, 51, etc.), use “год”. –Мне 21 год.
  • If the number ends in 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 to 14, and zero (10, 20, 40, etc.), use “лет”. – I am 15 years old. Мне 15 лет. Мне 20 лет.

In all other cases (numbers ending in 2, 3, 4), use “года”. – Мне 23 года. Мне 4 года

Note: All pronouns (тебе, мне, ему, ей) are in the dative case (answering the question “кому?”).

Сколько тебе лет? — Мне 21 год.

Сколько ему лет? — Ему 34 года.

Сколько ей лет? — Ей 45 лет.
