We continue the series of lessons in the series “Learning to Read Russian. Today you will learn about soft consonant letters and sounds. Remember the rule: when a consonant sound б, в, г, д, з, к, л, м, н, п, р, с, т, ф, х and a soft vowel sound (я, ё, ю, е, и) are combined, the consonant sounds soft too. In addition, you will repeat the words you have already learned, as well as learn new words in which the consonants and vowels sound hard.

Softness in the transcription is indicated by an apostrophe after the corresponding letter: [ф’ил’м].
