This is the sixth lesson in the series “Learning to Read Russian. In this lesson, you will learn the soft vowel letters and the sounds they convey: «е», «ё», «ю», «я», «и». Also included in this lesson is the consonant letter “й” (е short), which helps denote the soft vowel sounds in the Russian alphabet. The letters «е», «ё», «ю», «я» form sounds with “й” and the hard vowels «э», «о», «у», «а» that you know.
Additionally, you will learn the some cities names in Russian that use soft vowel sounds.
