Lesson 8. Stress and reduction

In this lesson, you will continue to learn about Russian vowel letters and sounds. You will learn that the spelling and pronunciation are not always the same. In our video lessons, all words are marked with an accent. The pronunciation of most vowels depends on the stress. The letter “o” under stress is pronounced as [o] and in the unstressed position as [a]. The letter “a” remains unchanged in any position.

The vocabulary for this lesson:

  • до́м [дом] / house;
